ANGELA MCNAMEE fundraising for Irish Heart Foundation in Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am taking part in the Arctic Challenge to raise €6,000 for the Irish Heart Foundation, a cause that has deep personal and professional meaning for me.
This is not my first challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation. I have previously fundraised by riding on horseback from Marrakesh over the Atlas Mountains towards the Sahara Desert, and by walking the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. When I saw the Arctic Challenge advertised, it simply felt right. At this stage in my life, I know it may be one of my last opportunities to challenge myself in such a meaningful way, physically and mentally.
My connection with heart health began many years ago. When my Dad had his heart attack, I was a young nurse starting out. I was in Ireland, he was in England, and I remember feeling helpless. Thankfully, he survived, and I have always been grateful for that. Looking back, that experience may have influenced my decision to pursue acute cardiology nursing.
In that work, I saw how suddenly heart disease and stroke can change a life. I saw the shock for families, the fear, the disability, the recovery, and sometimes the loss. I also saw that some devastation can be reduced through awareness, prevention, education, lifestyle changes and timely support.
For me, the Arctic Challenge represents courage, gratitude, health, resilience, ageing well and stepping outside my comfort zone. It is also a way of honouring my Dad and supporting the work of the Irish Heart Foundation for people and families across Ireland.
I cannot reach my €6500 target without support. If you can donate, no matter how small the amount, thank you. If you can share my page, that also helps me reach people beyond my own circle.
Every donation, every share and every word of encouragement helps me take another step towards the Arctic — and towards supporting hearts in Ireland.

About Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

We are taking 14 participants on this epic challenge to raise funds and awareness of the impacts of stroke and heart disease.

Following a stroke or heart event some people’s worlds are turned upside down when their abilities completely change, reshaping how they live in the world. They are forced to learn to manage their body’s new energy and capabilities in daily life and reimagine their lives going forward.

This challenge will be about learning new skills in a tough environment and carrying on even when it’s hard, because that’s what those living with the effects of a stroke or heart condition must do every day.

About Irish Heart Foundation

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death in both men and women. The tragic reality is – around 16 people will have a heart attack today. Just today, and every other day. And on each of those days, 20 others will have a stroke. These are extraordinary and stark facts. But the equally remarkable – and hopeful – reality is: 80% of early heart disease and stroke cases are preventable. That’s why the Irish Heart Foundation has been here for 60 years. Here to lead the charge to protect the cardiovascular health of everyone in Ireland. Here, to eliminate preventable death or disability. Here to collaborate. Here, not just as one of Ireland’s most trusted and effective charities, but to build a lifesaving movement across the country. We are here regardless of age, background or means. Here for every community, every school, and every workplace. Here for every heartbeat.
