Tony Mahon fundraising for Irish Heart Foundation in Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

In March 2027, I will be taking part in the Arctic Challenge in support of the Irish Heart Foundation. I am undertaking this incredible challenge to raise much-needed funds for the Foundations life-changing work supporting people affected by heart disease and stroke across Ireland. I have also covered my costs for this challenge i.e., flights, accommodation, meals, transfers, training and equipment, thus ensuring that your donation goes directly to the Irish Heart Foundation. I am doing this in honour and memory of my father, Chris Mahon, who was a great supporter of the Foundation in his day. His belief in its mission continues to inspire me every step of the way. At my age, and living with a heart condition, I know some people may think I must be slightly mad, (yes I am sure, some think that already) to take this on. But something about this challenge struck a deep chord in me and made me feel that I simply had to do it - for myself, and in memory of my father, and to support the truly vital work of the Irish Heart Foundation. As Irelands national heart and stroke charity, the Foundation supports people and families affected by heart disease and stroke, and your generosity can help make a real difference. I would be deeply grateful for any financial support you can give towards my challenge. In anticipation, I would like to sincerely thank you for your kindness and encouragement. Tony

About Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

We are taking 14 participants on this epic challenge to raise funds and awareness of the impacts of stroke and heart disease.

Following a stroke or heart event some people’s worlds are turned upside down when their abilities completely change, reshaping how they live in the world. They are forced to learn to manage their body’s new energy and capabilities in daily life and reimagine their lives going forward.

This challenge will be about learning new skills in a tough environment and carrying on even when it’s hard, because that’s what those living with the effects of a stroke or heart condition must do every day.

About Irish Heart Foundation

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death in both men and women. The tragic reality is – around 16 people will have a heart attack today. Just today, and every other day. And on each of those days, 20 others will have a stroke. These are extraordinary and stark facts. But the equally remarkable – and hopeful – reality is: 80% of early heart disease and stroke cases are preventable. That’s why the Irish Heart Foundation has been here for 60 years. Here to lead the charge to protect the cardiovascular health of everyone in Ireland. Here, to eliminate preventable death or disability. Here to collaborate. Here, not just as one of Ireland’s most trusted and effective charities, but to build a lifesaving movement across the country. We are here regardless of age, background or means. Here for every community, every school, and every workplace. Here for every heartbeat.
