Lorraine Brennan fundraising for Irish Heart Foundation in Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

As someone who loves being warm, choosing to spend a week hiking through the Arctic Circle is well outside my comfort zone — but it’s a challenge I’m taking on for a cause that truly matters to me! Raising funds for Her Heart Matters, a vital initiative by the Irish Heart Foundation that focuses on improving awareness, prevention, and treatment of heart disease in women. As a cardiology nurse, I see every day how heart disease affects women differently — and how often the signs are missed, misunderstood, or dismissed. Women’s heart health deserves more attention, better research, and stronger advocacy, and that’s exactly what Her Heart Matters works to support. This challenge will push me physically and mentally, but it’s nothing compared to the impact heart disease has on individuals and families across Ireland. Every donation, big or small, will help fund education, research, and life-saving support for women’s heart health. If you’re able to donate or share this page, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much for supporting a cause that truly matters to me. ❤️

About Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

We are taking 14 participants on this epic challenge to raise funds and awareness of the impacts of stroke and heart disease.

Following a stroke or heart event some people’s worlds are turned upside down when their abilities completely change, reshaping how they live in the world. They are forced to learn to manage their body’s new energy and capabilities in daily life and reimagine their lives going forward.

This challenge will be about learning new skills in a tough environment and carrying on even when it’s hard, because that’s what those living with the effects of a stroke or heart condition must do every day.

About Irish Heart Foundation

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death in both men and women. The tragic reality is – around 16 people will have a heart attack today. Just today, and every other day. And on each of those days, 20 others will have a stroke. These are extraordinary and stark facts. But the equally remarkable – and hopeful – reality is: 80% of early heart disease and stroke cases are preventable. That’s why the Irish Heart Foundation has been here for 60 years. Here to lead the charge to protect the cardiovascular health of everyone in Ireland. Here, to eliminate preventable death or disability. Here to collaborate. Here, not just as one of Ireland’s most trusted and effective charities, but to build a lifesaving movement across the country. We are here regardless of age, background or means. Here for every community, every school, and every workplace. Here for every heartbeat.
