Alan Coyne fundraising for Irish Heart Foundation in Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

I'll be honest — I never imagined I'd find myself signing up for something like this. But here I am, preparing to travel 350km north of the Arctic Circle to navigate frozen lakes, camp overnight in temperatures of -20°C, and take on one of the most extraordinary physical and mental challenges of my life. This is the Arctic Challenge 2027, and I am doing it in support of the Irish Heart Foundation.
This is my first time ever taking on a challenge like this. No marathons, no mountain climbs — just me, way outside my comfort zone, facing the wilderness of Finnish Lapland with a pair of skis and a lot of determination. I'm covering all the costs of the trip myself, so every single euro you donate goes directly to the Irish Heart Foundation and the vital work they do.

And that work truly matters. The Irish Heart Foundation supports people whose lives have been turned upside down by a heart event or stroke — moments that can completely reshape how someone lives, moves, and experiences the world. These individuals have to dig deep every single day, reimagining their lives and adapting to a body that has fundamentally changed. It's that same spirit of carrying on in the face of difficulty that this challenge is built around, and it's what motivates me to take it on.

Heart disease and stroke affect thousands of Irish families every year, and the Irish Heart Foundation is there for them — providing support, advocacy, and vital research to help people live healthier, fuller lives. It's a cause that deserves every bit of support it can get.

My fundraising target is €3,000. Any donation — big or small — means the world to me and to those the Irish Heart Foundation supports. Thank you so much. 🧡

About Arctic Challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation 2027

We are taking 14 participants on this epic challenge to raise funds and awareness of the impacts of stroke and heart disease.

Following a stroke or heart event some people’s worlds are turned upside down when their abilities completely change, reshaping how they live in the world. They are forced to learn to manage their body’s new energy and capabilities in daily life and reimagine their lives going forward.

This challenge will be about learning new skills in a tough environment and carrying on even when it’s hard, because that’s what those living with the effects of a stroke or heart condition must do every day.

About Irish Heart Foundation

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death in both men and women. The tragic reality is – around 16 people will have a heart attack today. Just today, and every other day. And on each of those days, 20 others will have a stroke. These are extraordinary and stark facts. But the equally remarkable – and hopeful – reality is: 80% of early heart disease and stroke cases are preventable. That’s why the Irish Heart Foundation has been here for 60 years. Here to lead the charge to protect the cardiovascular health of everyone in Ireland. Here, to eliminate preventable death or disability. Here to collaborate. Here, not just as one of Ireland’s most trusted and effective charities, but to build a lifesaving movement across the country. We are here regardless of age, background or means. Here for every community, every school, and every workplace. Here for every heartbeat.
